Several of the Chicago Perl Mongers chipped in to support the Lincoln Park Zoo through their Adopt-An-Animal program. Sometime in the Spring of 2007 we'll take a field trip to the Zoo for a docent-guided behind-the-scenes tour of the camel exhibit.
This camel is Camelus bactrianus, native to Mongolia and China and quite able to handle Chicago's climate. The bactrian camel has two humps, unlike the dromedary camel on the front of Programming Perl. Read more about our adopted camel on the Zoo's camel fact sheet.
The London Perl Mongers were the first group to adopt a local camel when they donated to the London Zoo in 2000.
